Dear Shalab,

I'm not an expert on the precise details of this. But
since nobody else has E-Mailed an answer to your
question, here's the most accurate information I have
on what is going on with Java-2D on Mac. To run
Java-2D you need an implementation of at least JDK
1.2. The current news that I have is that Apple's JDK
1.2 implementation will require Mac OS X, and will not
run on OS 9. It seems likely that a JDK 1.2 release
for Mac will be bundled with Mac OS X public beta,
which has a rumored release date of mid-September.

It is also commonly rumored that the Java-2D
implementation in Apple's JDK 1.2 will be based on
Apple's Quartz rendering technology, which is specific
to Mac OS X and above.

I think it would really help if someone from Apple
made an offical announcement to this effect. I don't
recall seeing much about this on their web site,
except for a statement with OS X will come with
built-in support for JDK 1.2.

Sincerely,

Thorn Green
