Thanks, Dmitri. I want to correct a minor detail in my problem description. I said "vanish and reappear". I really should have said that the dialog came up blank (after the program ran all night) and then as I moved the mouse pointer over where the controls were supposed to be, each control would appear and then disappear again as the mouse pointer moved off of it.
