My venture into transparency, texturing, and overlap is coming to a close. Here are a few additional observations to those from my post yesterday... These observations are made using transparent shapes with a transparent texture. I haven't had time to try other combinations and permutations and perhaps they do not generalize to other situations. 1) If I add 3 coplanar shapes as 3 separate children to an OrderedNode the FIRST child added will appear in front and the LAST child added will appear in back. This is the reverse of what the spec implies -- first child is drawn first and presumably would appear in back with subsequent shapes drawn over it. (This is also why I mis-stated in my previous post that the order had no effect. I had done a couple quick tests while relying on the assumption that the render order was as spec'd). This seems like a bug. 2) If the shapes are coplanar then texture transparency dominates the render order (i.e. if a shape is in front any transparent area on its texture will appear transparent. You won't see the shape in back. This is unintuitive but perhaps not a bug given the limitations on transparency. 3) With NICEST mag and min filtering an edge effect appears at the top edge of shapes whose texture is transparent along that edge. This appears to be a bug. --jon ____________________ Peculiar Technologies ____________________ Jon Barrilleaux 3800 Lake Shore Ave. Purveyors of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Oakland, CA 94610 Alternate Reality 510.444.4370 voc Augmented Simulation 510.444.0231 fax www.augsim.com and 3D Solutions =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
