I saw a similar behaviour with my stuff using hotspot (jdk1.2.2)
back then when it first came out. I reported it to sun as a bug. Later
I saw something that there is a problem, err, issue in hotspot 1.0
with floating points performance that might cause this behaviour. Back
then I couldn't track it down to the gc.
