I'd like to concur in part with Mr. Baker.
Java3D is an elegant, large, developer-friendly 3D API, unfortunately
written in a language with inherent, frustrating performance limitations.
Like the Java libraries, I'd prefer to see the Java3D libraries offered in
C++. Today's speedy processors and plentiful RAM make imperceptible the
performance costs of Java's Smalltalk approach for most applications (on
single-user workstations) -- but not all applications on all systems.
The current installation problems need not be permanent. In the future,
Java3D could come pre-installed in OS's and browsers, just as Java itself is
now.
