I'm relatively new to the Java3D world, but I have been a long-time user
of OpenGL. I have recently been asked to evaluate the feasibility of
using Java3D instead of OpenGL for many of our upcoming graphics
projects, and wanted to find some statistics on how Java3D stacks up.
Obviously the API is much easier to use, but what we really need to know
is whether Java3D can handle a heavy graphics load without getting
bogged down.

I hunted around quite a bit, and was a little surprised NOT to find
performance benchmark results, since I figured that either SUN would be
saying "look at how fast we are!", or the OpenGL community would be
saying "look how slow they are!" The LAST thing I expected was not to
hear anything from either side!

So, has anyone here done any benchmark tests, or if not, do any of you
know of a place where I could find such results?

Thanks, in advance!
