I got two answers to this question, one using another layer of transforms to
move the the object in the screne back and the other to add a scale to the
object geometry. The scale was particularly simple to add to the transform
that I alredy had centering the object on the origin so that is the way I
went. It works great now.
Thanks to Mike and Joh for their suggestions.

Hi,
For what it is worth, I scan the coordinates in the shape3D objects to get a
rectangular parallopiped containg the object and use us a scaling factor
like 2/diagonal to ensure that the object fits nicely in the screen.

Mike
