[JAVA3D] Newbie question

Hello!   I am about to learn java3D in order to implement it. Now, my question is can I integrate java3D in a swing interface? Or do I have to use the AWT?   What I have to create is an application with a window into a 3d-world, a place where photos and stuff are shown dynamically as a result of a search in a database.   Best regards Th+
