Sorry, I don't have any experience with java.comm.*. But I also
recommend you look at the code by Satoshi Konno at
http://www.cyber.koganei.tokyo.jp/top/index.html
If you download his code for the magellan, for instance, you can take
a look at how he uses java.comm.*
