My system is the following: Win2k, Dual Celeron 400, Diamond TNT2 using latest v5.22 drivers from nVidia.
Results with 1024x768 resolution, 32bit color:
256x256: 500Hz           Full Screen (ie maximised window): 98Hz

Results with 1024x768, 16bit:
    256x256: 32Hz             Full screen: 8Hz

Obviously there are some problems with drivers and J3D when displaying in 16bit color mode under Win2k.

Regards,

Andrian

Subject: [JAVA3D] get frame rate using FramesPerSecondBehavior. RE: [JAVA3D] New NVidia Drivers for W2K no good?

Hi Mike,
I had posted a test app that prints out the frame rate to the console window.
please run this app (by launching the attached helloUniverse) and post the results on list
(I have had many many difficulties with J3D and win2k; you can search the mail archives for a previous email titled "BUG?! Java3D Performance issue on Win2000")

Thank you, SyrusM

Subject: [JAVA3D] New NVidia Drivers for W2K no good?

I just installed the new Detinator 2 drivers from NVidia on my P2 450 box with a TNT(16 MB) and 256 MB of memory and Windows 2000.

I could not notice any difference in the performance at all.  Running the SphereMotion demo, it was still as clunky as ever...with Java3D 1.2, JDK 1.3 and no other tasks running.  I remember running this same thing on NT with the older 3.63 drivers and it was WAY faster.  Why would that be?

One thing I noticed was that after the install and re-boot the old opengl driver was still in the winnt/sys32 directory, so I replaced it with the new dll that came in the zip file...isn't the openGL dll supposed to get installed automatically when you install the new nvidia drivers?  I uninstalled the old drivers first.

Anyone have the same experience with TNT on Windows 2000?

Am I doing something wrong?

Mike
