Web3d, Sun, and AOL / Time Warner are developing
a common integrated VRML solution for Netscape 6
/ Mozilla which will seamlessly integrate VRML / X3d
into the browser and Java3D will be part of the solution,
perhaps in combination with Java 1 and Blaxxun's
Contact Viewer ( whose source code is available on
a Community Source basis ) so VRML will run on the
widest variety of devices and some platforms may be
supported with a variety of solutions and offer you a
the choice to select the solution what is optimal for your
you, your task, your machine ... portable solutions giving
you new capabilities, choices, and freedom.
With Java3D you have your own VRML Viewer ...
- it's infinitely customizable.
- H-Anim Avatars work ...
* almost as though they were DESIGNED to work together.

H-Anim/nancy_H-Anim_x3d.wrl
- this same VRML file works with :
- Java3d ( for greatest speed )
- Java 1.1 ( for greatest portability )
- VRML plug-in viewers ( Comso, Contact, Cortona )
The mass market, closed " Windows Only " Viewers
give you only what the vendors think most people want,
and they change things to suit their own interests, adding
non-compliant features, etc.

Yes, I'm doing it, and my interactive Web Demo
( using Java 1 ) reflects the functionality of my Java3D
code ( which presently is not very " web friendly " ).
Most of the VRML files the Web Demo uses ( which
you can grab ) work with the Java3D version :
http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/shout3d/models/
The VRML players Sun gives you ( Java Source Code )
let's you get started ... load the files and Nancy, a VRML /
H-Anim Avatar will Jump / Walk / Run at your command
just as she does with the plug-ins and my Java 1 demo.
Java3D lets you access the internal Scene Graph via
the OpenGL layer and you are free to look around and
change things ... so you can do everything you can do
with a closed x86 ap ... and more, with more portability.
Java3D is now relatively difficult to use, but it offers
increased possibilities in terms of customization, speed,
and portability ... beyond x86 and the desktop and into
the new wild world of the Web and portable devices.
While Java3D may be difficult to install ...
AOL knows something about making software easier
to use ... and Microsoft may have a monopoly on
The Desktop but The Desktop environment is increasingly
marginalized and you may find your Java3D installation
problems solved when you get cable TV from Time
Warner ... your kid gets AOL or a new Sega game machine.

Updates / New Features :
- Finger Spelling H-Anim Avatar
( may be listed as "Girl riding Horse " )
- x3d / Java 1 extended with new custom nodes
( Cylinder, etc. ) for greater compliance with
VRML-97 and simpler files and paving the way
for replacing PROTOs with native support and
native support H-Anim Avatars ( Joint, Segment, etc.)
