I have several heterogeneous Suns (SunOS 5.7, which uses NS4.5 and 5.8,
which uses NS4.7). These machines use a common set of user home directories.
After installing JDK1.2.0 and Java3d, the NS4.7 works fine. But if I execute
NS 4.5 on one of the 5.7 machines, subsquently NS4.7 does not think that it
has any plugins installed. COntrolPanel will not execute since it requires
Java2 and the plugin ( Catch-22). The only remedy I have found is to reinstall
Java2 and the Plugin.
I have been hesitant to update the NS4.5 on the older machines because I'm
not comfortable with mucking with the dt. Is it correct that all I need to
do to update the Netscape is to replace the executable
/usr/dt/appconfig/netscape/netscape* ?
If so that ought to be easy. Has anyone else done this?
