I am using OpenGL on Win NT PIII 450, 128M. I should also mention that when
I encountered this problem, I checked a couple of ATI cards and drivers.
Here is what I found:

That is interesting... I am *supposed* to be writing some pages about
video drivers for the FAQ. I had better experience with a *BETA* driver
available on the ATI pages... version 5.38.2b08... this driver is in
their "Unsupported drivers" pages. This driver performed better for me
in OpenGL. Are you using Direct3D or OpenGL??

Hello all,

After recently changing machines, I noticed drastic changes in
rendering quality with the ATI Rage Pro video drivers. I had been using
drivers 5.1.118 but "upgraded" to 5.2.040. This caused some horrible
squares
to appear at the vertices of polygons within a Shape3D when rendering in
mode PolygonAttributes.POLYGON_LINE - (i.e. wire mesh - see attached
screen
shots). The squares appear and disappear as the shape is rotated.
Switching
back to the 5.1.118 drivers solved the problem. These squares did not
seem
to appear when rendering with filled polygons or when rendering with
points
only. The attached images show the differences between the two driver
sets.
The point is: I'd recommend sticking with 5.1.118 if your work
involves a lot of wire frame models.
