Hidden lines are not removed.  Java3d does view fulstrum culling, which
removes shapes from the rendering pipeline which are to the left, right,
above, below and behind the image plate.  Z-buffering then is used to keep
the closest "pixel" correct.  There is currently no culling of shapes that
are occluded by other shapes, but within the view fulstrum.  For that you
need to write your own oct-tree or bsp tree culling.
