Who can tell me about this X3D stuff?

What is it?
Is it used as a replacement for, or in addition to Java3D?
Why would I want to learn it?
Is there a tutorial?
The documentation needs work. Take a look at ElevationGrid, how do you get
the data in?
Seems like there would be a "public void createGrid(Point3d[][] gridArray)"
method or something like that.
