Thanks.
I need the polygons anyway. Well I'd like to be able to
turn them on and off - wireframe when rotating and dragging
on screen, etc. But both the lines representing the 'edges'
of the object, and the surfaces are supposed to be shown
in the 'normal' mode. It's supposed to look almost
cartoonish I guess, with the surfaces outlined in a different
color. My problem comes when a single surface is made from
more than one polygon - I don't want the adges of every
polygon shown...
I thought of one other way to approach this, but it still
need some serious low level acces to J3D. My new idea is
that if I had a single strip of quads that represent what
is supposed to be the smooth continuous curving surface of
the object, Then These edges would only need to be drawn
when for any edges of a quad in the strip that are shared
with another quad in the same strip that has been culled.
In otherword only the outside edges of the outside quads
of the visible segment of the strip need to be drawn.
Unfortunately that doesn't help me much. I still don't know
how to get the J3D renderer to easily do this for me.
Oh well, maybe I'll push this off to the back burner.
Thanks again
