Hello,

I have not checked on the status of loaders and this post assumes that
there is no DWG loader for Java3D.

Bryce 5 will only help so much even if you get the dwg inside.

You would have to export to Ray Dream Studio then export to VRML 97 then
use the VRML 97/Xj3d loader. Byrce 5 will also export to 3DS. You could
export to VRML 1 and then use a VRML 1 to VRML 97 convertor.

The bottom line is that Descreet (they own autocad and 3d studio max) is
going to make it hard on you. They have the market share and no motivation
to make it easy on people using formats other than 3DS, DWG and DXF. Lots
of people make money off of convertors just for this reason. You have to
get it to 3DS format since I am assuming that everyone converts from 3DS to
every other format or that there is a loader for 3DS. Best solution is to
have your source export the terrain in 3DS format or even in Lightwave
format and use the Lightwave loader.

You can also try to get the original DEM data and use a tool at the GeoVRML
site to generate a GeoVRML terrain and then use the Xj3d loader. This will
only work if the Xj3d loader will load GeVRML nodes. I have not verified
that it is GeoVRML compliant.
