Hi John,
GeForce based graphics card from nVidia should be able
to support "stereo" with appropriate driver or patch installed.
If you have a GeForce based graphics card, you can search
for "SoftQuadro" and it will point to the web-links that will
tell you how to patch the driver to support "stereo" display
under OpenGL. You can use, for example:
java -Dj3d.stereo=REQUIRED HelloWorld
to see the HelloWorld demo program displayed in "Stereo".
There are actually two vendors making nVidia baded
"Deluxe" video card that comes with the glasses that
will enable you to see stereo display.

The stereo images can be viewed from a notebook screen
or monitor if you have the appropriate devices installed.
However, a refresh rate of 120Hz is recommened to view
the "flicker-free" stereo image! You probably need a
highend monitor to be able to do it.
