Well, our plan is to do cell simulations and interaction with our CAVE, so
we think we can do it with Java (and maybe a little JNI?).  We have a 6800
midframe, with 20 x 750Mhz UltraSparc III's (comparable in computational
speed to 1.4Mhz Pentiums in a couple of tests I've done) and 20 GB RAM.
It is definitely possible to pack some "high order" on a mid-frame, and
the rendering power is all on the 4 graphics cards.
