I run out of memory with my 2MB video card in one of my older machines.
Usually just displays black where the 3D is supposed to be. My newer machine
works just fine.

2 MB Video card?  That's a bit old.  Try putting in a slightly newer
video card. (A GeForce 2 MX with 64 Meg of video memory is less than $90
these days).

I'm surprised you get that error though as Java 3D will even run on my
"ancient" laptop without any hardware acceleration.
