I want to draw on the canvas3D (ovelay information, hopefully semitransparent)  I did a lot of research on this a while ago, and everything I tried dropped my framerate from ~70 to ~15.  I ended up making floating JWindows above the frame with the Canvas, but I don't really like this approach.
 
Is there a better way?  Perhaps the various drawing techniques have improved?
 
Also, I'm getting a crash when I resize my window.  When I size at all or move another window in front of the canvas, the whole program stops and the canvas paints white.  What's the cause and resolution of this?
