Hi Justin,

I too am flabbergasted that Sun hasn't completed the install method for
java. At JavaOne I went nuts at the Webstart people as to when they
think their solution will be implemented. But they promised me that
signed JVM's and Java3D (and only Java3D) will 'definitely' be
implemented within 6 months time.

At the moment I put all the Standard Extensions I use (Java3D, JMF, JAF,
JavaMail) with the rest of my webstart files and sign them. This seems
to work fine. The client only needs to have webstart installed. I know
this isn't a legal solution for final deployment, but it seems perfect
for testing purposes. When Sun delivers the extensions properly it will
be simple to change back to use the auto download (just a few line
changes in the jnlp file).

Can you see any problems with this approach?

David.

Subject: [JAVA3D] Moving targets with installer

Ok, now I'm pissed. It seems someone at Sun has decided they don't like
people downloading software to automatically install and been a seamless
(seemless?) experience for the end users. Miraculously, overnight, the
Java3D installers have gone walkabout from Sun's site forcing my demo
installer to not function correctly anymore. What was working perfectly
yesterday fails to find files today. I'm extremely angry at this. Bloody
hell Sun, do you want people to use your products or not? Get the
F@*(&%@ lawyers *out* of the process and actually cater to what your
customers want otherwise we're going to walk away.
