I share your concern and I'm worried about the silence around this issue from Sun's side. This bug should be very easy to detect and fix since it is so easy to duplicate.

Subject: [JAVA3D] Any progress on the JRE 1.4 repaint problems with
javaw?
We're chomping at the bit here to migrate to java 1.4, but we can't because
of the reported bug that causes repaint problems while running under
'javaw'. None of the hacks I've tried (adding various listeners to force
repaints) are sufficient for saleable products. Is there ANY word from
ANYONE on how to get around this?
I would expect Sun to be more active in finding an interim solution to
this, given their push to get developers to migrate to 1.4. This is my
third email to this group, and I've sent a very specific test case to the
J3D group. Doug has responded once, indicating the cited AWT bugs. Whether
it's an AWT or a J3D issue doesn't concern me; finding a solution to the
problem does. At the very least, is there someone else I can contact at Sun
about getting a fix without having to wait for 1.4.1 to come out?
Thanks for your time,
