Title: RE: [JAVA3D] WinNT Bluescreen

Brett,

This is more than likely a graphics card compatibility problem.  (I have seen all manner of crashes, lockups, display artifacts, and general mayhem when running Java 3D apps, and almost all were tracked down to the graphics card.)

You said your graphics card is a "3dlabsglz1"... can you be more specific?  Some cards made by 3Dlabs include Oxygen VX1, Oxygen GVX1, Oxygen GVX1 Pro, etc.  There are also older cards based on the Permedia 2 and Permedia 3 chipsets.  When you get the bluescreen, does it mention the offending module? (usually a DLL)

Subject: [JAVA3D] WinNT Bluescreen

Hi,

I have just started working with java3d again in the last 2 weeks or
so.  I am currently using jdk1.4.0 and java3d 1.2.1p04.  I am seeing
bluescreen crashes on windows NT4.0 sp6 every so often, even using
something simple like the HelloUniverse app in the demo directory.  The
crashes seem to usually come when I exit the app.  I'm not trying to
upset anything, and surely this could be something with my system, but I
am just starting a new project for which I need to recommend an API and
wanted to get some feedback from other users on the stability of the
platform and any suggestions for stabilizing my system (933 mhz, 1024 mg
ram, 3dlabsglz1 card).  Thanks in advance.
