I don't think so. I completely rewrote it a couple of weeks ago so that
it handles the font work properly now. In my demo program, I create
labels that are 64x32 and it comes up fairly nicely with the default
font. Anything less than that and you really start getting into fuzzy
looks due to the antialiasing of the text rendering. I haven't tried
turning antialiasing off yet.

Yes. I should do that as a matter of course. I've been a bit lazy with
the j3d.org code as all the effort is going into xj3d. Let me fix the
sphere problem and look at the texCoord generation and then I'll put
something out. Probably end of the week.
