Yeah - Use the OpenGL version of J3D, I don't know about the d3d version, it's always had that little choppiness to it (looking at it through a profiler didn't do much, as everything was too slow to get a good picture of when the pauses were actually happening). If it's still slow, reboot, as if it crashes once for some reason java3d will still hold all the video memory (in gl and d3d versions, unfortunately) until you reboot.
I'd suggest at least a 32mb video card. ... on bugs: there is the seekingrocket bug (which someone pointed out) that i still have to sort out. it will be fixed for the next release, maybe i'll do a point to get rid of this. This is the only crash bug in the game. Ocassionally java3d will crash on its own, and i've never been able to reproduce this. ... on sound: oops.. didn't even mention this before - no sound as of yet. i still have to soundforge up samples for the weapons, and get all the sound hooks in the engine. next full release. ... on getting your ass kicked: cool. it's nice to see that the ai's can beat people if they're new to it all. just remember to keep moving and remember to jet away (middle mouse button) perpendicular to the opponent if he fires at you. some notes: shotgun beats laser (go close and just nail them with the full spread) laser beats rocket (just zap the rockets) rocket beats shotgun (fire them behind your opponent and switch to lasers when all three are activated and seeking) >From: Marc Palmer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [JAVA3D] J3D Game Project almost complete/Keyframe 3dsmax... >Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 13:25:35 GMT > > > Seems to play okay on my machine (P4 1.6ghz, 512mb, ATI Rage128Pro 32Mb, > > NT4sp6a, jdk1.4_01+j3d1.3fcs) > > > Got my butt kicked lots and after a while got this exception... > >Yes I get that too I think it's in situations of "rapid fire" i.e. >hammering the mouse button.
