Run them through a program capable of uncompressing GZip files. Winzip
or similar should be good enough if you are on a Windows box.
Unfortunately, this situation arose due to some short-sightedness in the
earlier VRML days. AFAIK, none of the VRML loaders support the automatic
detection of gzip-encoded content and automatically decompress it before
parsing.
