Hi Julian,

Yes, to get it to work, you need the .obj file (including texture
coordinates etc. and also links to the Materials you want to use). The Materials of the
Object are stored in a seperate file - the .mtl file wich also may contain
textures  (actually the links to some graphics files).

Sample content of a .mtl file:

You also may want to have a look at other loaders (i.e. a 3ds loader).

Also there is a great software called "Deep Exploration" from Right
Hemisphere.
It reads, displays and converts lots of 3Dfileformats.
They have a trial-version on their website.
It is one of the few programs able to deal with the obj/mat combo in a
flexible way.
