Thanks Emanuel. I should have mentioned:

The obj and mtl files look fine. The mtl file is referencing the proper
images, and the texture coordinates in the obj file look reasonable for the
geometries and images that are being used. The problem is that after loading
the file the rendered image is totally whacked, as if the texture
coordinates are screwed up. When I query for the texture coordinates it
gives a zero count.

The files are being exported by Deep Exploration. The original data is from
Softimage, where of course everything renders fine.
