Hi all,

I've just released the first version of my demo Yaarq, which illustrates how
to implement several gaming-related capabilities of Java3D, including
texturing, bump mapping, reflection mapping, overlays, particle systems and
so on, in Java3D. Probably most important, Yaarq demonstrates how to achive
stable frame rates (I put a lot of time into this: It seems there is exactly
one way of doing things, as I found out after trying at least five
possibilities).

Yaarq is a completely documented engine on which you can base your own
application, and the demo is a simple application of the engine. After all
the interest that followed the bumpmapping discussion earlier this year, I
decided I could as well generalise the demo into an engine instead of
providing just another hackup.

Please find Yaarq at

Currently, the demo consists of two scenes: In the first one, you can watch
a non-interactive introduction. In the second scene, you can interactively
control a flyer. I have not found the time to introduce further objects into
the second scene, perhaps I will release an extended version with enemy
flyers, clouds etc. in 2003, but dont count on it too soon. Anyhow, if any
of you wish to extend that second part, I shall provide any support you
need!

Hope you like Yaarq

Wolf
