Oops! My apologies. This apparently turns out to not be a general Java 3D problem. I failed to mention that I was running from JBuilder Enterprise (version 6.0.438.0.expensive). Now that I cranked out a stand-alone app (runnable via the command line), it seems to not have the problem I mentioned. Thus, the question is almost moot. However, if anyone has any knowledge as to why that's happening, please let me know - or better yet, please let Borland know (which is also what I should do).
Man, this list is good - after writing to it, the problem was solved in 3 hours! I apologize for the possibly (hopefully) rudimentary nature of this question, but how does one fix the problem with the improper screen refresh that can happen after another window overlaps a non-animated Java 3D window? Okay, maybe I should be a bit more precise: Set-up: Win2K with J2SDK 1.4.1_01 and Java 3D, 1.3, OpenGL version. It is 58 degrees F outside with partly cloudy skies. 1) display a Java 3D window with non-animated content (e.g., HelloJava3Da from the tutorial examples). 2) place another window (e.g., Window's calculator utility) over part of the Java 3D window. 3) click the title bar of the Java 3D window (i.e., bring the Java 3D window back to the top). 4) move the mouse inside the drawing frame of the Java 3D window. At this point, what happens on my machine is that the window refreshes to show a blank area (white or gray or ?) where the previously overlapping window (e.g., Window's calculator utility) had covered. If the Java 3D window is dragged to a new location, the window refreshes properly. Note that this problem does not happen with Stephan Reiling's Tripos Molecular Modeler app (from Sun's Java 3D demos at http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/3D/demos/). Thanks, in advance, for any assistance. Happy Holidays!
