of Java bindings to OpenGL (the most complete and up to date available), Java bindings
to OpenAL, and a new input controller library that supports all types of input devices.
The project names are jogl, joal, and jinput respectively.

However, JSR-184 is dedicated to mobile 3d, i.e. cellphones, PDA's, etc.,
not for mainstream PC users.
At the moment, the only *existing* thing, which *is* on the j2se technology
list, it's java3D. Other things were only *announced*, like the new java
gaming platform. I thing there is a big difference between *having*
something and *announcing* your future intent to make something. The
announcements often are made on marketing needs, but it's not always
followed by an action. On the other hand, I don't think that java3d will be
dropped, it will stay for a while, *maybe* tuned for graphics workstation
class applications. *Maybe* for gaming it will be a new 3d technology, a
mixture be tween the java3d experience and gl4java direct wrapper.
If I were in the position to give advices to the java3d/java gaming
development teams, I would leverage the java3d pure immediate mode/mixed
mode to something closer to gl4java, and expose some of the lower level api.
It doesn't make sense to develop a brand new specification, except you're
doing it for specific marketing purposes.
Kind Regards,
Florin

scenegraph subset of java 3d modified+opengl)? There is apparently supposed
t o be some news about that and I'm wondering if there was anything cool

Being here right in place, I can tell you that I didn't catch up any
news about it.
Seems a bit they avoid to talk about it....
