Hello everyone, A member of my group suddenly has an opportunity to relay concerns about the development of Java3D to the Upper Echelons of Sun in the very near future. I am interested in getting feedback from people in the community to build a case for its continued development. More specifically, it would make a powerful statement if I could compile a list of:
- Commercial products based on Java3D - Publications citing Java3D use - Use of Java3D in instruction of CS students - Use of Java3D in scientific visualization This would help paint a picture of why it should be kept, or at the very least have adapters for future developments. I'd also like to get real numbers on: -people who have suspended work with/decided not to use Java3D due to uncertainty of its fate -people who would switch to Java3D on a project if it worked on Macs -people who would be willing to contribute to the codebase for 1.4 and forward -people who would be interested in a professional Java3D editing environment (think SunONE Studio (free, like j3dedit) vs. SunONE Studio Enterprise Edition (cost)) Please respond off-list, and please don't rant about what features you'd like (that's what the JCP is for, plus I don't have the time to work this stuff over). I can compile information for the next 24 hours, so please send before that if you want your opinion included.
