The default driver for NVidia cards on linux does software rendering. You can download the latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/. I have seen huge performance improvements but along with this came a few bugs (visual artifacts, problems with offscreen rendering, etc).

Hi,
I am testing some high polygon count models on Linux, but I got low FPS. The FPS decreases inversely proportional to number of polygons, i.e, a low polygon CubeColor run at +500FPS, but a human model with +40k polygons run at 8FPS. This same human model run at ~40FPS in the same machine but on Win98
I am using AMD Duron 1.1GHz 384MB Ram GForce2/MX-400 64MB PCI Win98: JDK 1.4.2 - J3D 1.3.1 OGL Detonator 30.82
Linux: Debbian XFree 4.2 Kernel 2.4.18 NVidia 4364 JDK 1.4.2 J3D 1.3.1beta
Any tip will be welcome
