Mike, Thanks for your test program. I've updated the bug report to P3, and it will be reviewed for fix in the next release if we have to. I hope to get back to you with a decent workaround ASAP.

This bug has been around since Sept 2002 and is still in the final release of 1.3.1 (and the beta release for Linux). The test case recreates the bug. Directions for the test case are included in the file header.
Is there any chance of seeing this bug fixed and a new point release anytime soon? This bug is a show stopper since it prevents geometry sorting with transparency. I know Java3D is not under active development anymore, but the work-around of "Disable Geometry Sorting" is really not acceptable.
