Adriana,
 maybe I understand it wrong, but if you use a
Behavior  you already has the 'changes' it in another
thread. I mean, the behaviors has its own thread(s).

 And you can change your behavior parameters using
some pairs of set/get methods to your customized
Behavior.
 By using Behaviors you also have a better control of
when the changes will be happens (each frame, each
10ms, each AWT event, after a collision, etc)

 Just my 2 cents...
