Clifford,

The Java3D tutorial is still very accurate. There may be a few places that
have changed, but on the whole the API has not changed since the original
spec in 1999.

If you have OpenGL experience I think you will pick up Java3D quickly. Most
of the concepts in Java3D can be traced back to their OpenGL implementation.
I suggest reading the tutorial, possibly buying a Java3D book, and looking
at the demos in the distribution. Oh, and write some simple stuff :) Search
Amazon for "java 3d" and the first few hits are decent books.

Good luck,
-mike

Subject: [JAVA3D] Where to start?

Hello Java3D list,

I'm starting a project that includes a GUI which will show a 3D
scatterplot of some interesting data. I'm looking around for 3D API
docs, books, etc. I was surprised the tutorial on sun.com was from
1999. What's the latest and greatest way to get up to speed w/the 3D
API? I have Java experience, Java 2D API experience, and some 3D
programming experience from OpenGL.

Thanks.
