Adrian,

It's unlikely that you'll make a "film" in real time (capturing and
saving the frames generally is too slow to do in real time - unless you
are just capturing on a video recorder connected to your PC).

As for hardware you should be able to use just about any reasonably
recent PC with a decent video card (NVidea GeForce or ATI Radeon).

Milkshape should export to 3DS format and you could use our loader to
load that into Java 3D.

Why not just use Milkshape or another 3D package that not only does the
modeling but the rendering too? Why use Java 3D?

Hi all,
I am in the process of setting up a project to make a 30 minute long computer
generated film. As I have very little resources and this is a hobby I have decided to
do as much of the work as possible using free software and minimal hardware costs.
Consequently I have opted for Java 3D and I would also like to use Milkshape 3D for
content in particular the human models however I have not successfully used a
Milkshape loader yet!
I would appreciate some general tips from those experienced in this field on what I
need for a good development kit.
Any information on -
1.) Typical hardware requirement to produce a 30min long film.
2.) Software packages to use for content building which must have reliable
loader to Java 3D and free if possible
        3.) Advantage / Disadvantage of Java 3D

Any information you think will be useful for a low budget start-up in 3D Animation.

Looking forward to replies and many thanks,
Adrian.
