I would recommend the STB over the Creative Labs (I have the STB card, AGP version). However there are better TNT cards out there noteably the ASUS model. For a comparison of the various cards based on the Riva TNT chips, check out

Also, be aware that the TNT card drivers seem to have some major problem with some OpenGL feature, noteably observable in the Java3D ConicWorld demo. Check the mailing list archives for the thread

Re: [java3d] CL TNT and strange display problem

Apparently there is an old version of the driver for the Diamond card that does not have this problem (though the latest does).

I'm interested in buying a graphics card for Java3D under windows NT.

I have narrowed the candidates down to either:
Creative Labs Graphics Blaster Riva TNT
or
STB Velocity 4400

I intend to use the card in a pentiumII 333Mhz computer and am wondering
whether to get a card for a AGP Bus or a PCI bus.
(I'm considering PCI card as it *could* be used in my other Pentium90 PC)

Can anyone quantify the performace increase an AGP card has over a PCI card?

Are there any other cards I should be considering?

Thanks in advance.
