I've been using 64 bit suse and I can't say I've had any problems - except I never know where to find javaws. I'm not sure 64-bit java has javaws in it, but other than that it all seems to work.
I do end up having both 32 bit and 64 bit java installed, but mostly because I don't pay attention when I install it. I don't usually use the suse distributed java, but install my own versions.
