zimbra isn't free, but it looks like a great solution. Seems odd that people would be paranoid about a calendaring app in the cloud. Let's say someone hacks your calendar: OMG they find out you guys have a meeting at 10AM!
BTW, you can use SSL for gmail and gcal. If you use the "better GCal" firefox extension it will force SSL. And even if you don't use Google Apps the calendars aren't public. They are only public if you want them to be. If I were starting a new company I'd be google apps for email/cal all the way. It's free, 7 gigs of storage, 20 gig attachments, unmatched search, and they have an awesome spam/virus filter. Just make sure you use SSL and a good pw and it's probably safer than running in house. Our corporate email server (exchange) has WAY more problems than gmail/gcal.... i trust google way more than our SAs.
