Please treat everything I write skeptically, these are my current
impressions...

1a) Sun makes a lot of money licensing JME so they are unlikely to
give it away for free at this time.
1b) Writing a JVM on top of the Davlik VM may not work out well in
practice.

2) I don't think that the JME code is open source at this time.
