I am not convinced that they do better. Just copying Java and improving a little here and there what turned out to be suboptimal is not what I consider as really doing better. - I would not wonder if former versions of .NET would again adopt things from the Java community. I consider the Java community way more creative. Of course there is many effort put into things at the Java side that might not be successful in the long run, but from current view we don't know what will be more successful.
