Yes. I'm not alone. ;)

The data on reverse dependencies of openjdk-6-jre from Ubuntu Karmic
repositories suggest that there are around 60 apps using it in Ubuntu
9.10,
from scientific apps to games, IDEs, , and around 250 packages in
total
depending on it (apps, libs, etc.). For the mono-runtime package, the
latter number is around 280, I haven't looked at the apps number.

In terms of actual usage on desktop Linux, Ubuntu is probably a good
distribution to look at due to its focus on the desktop. From Ubuntu's
popcon data on what software its users participating in the
'popularity contest'
(i.e. popcon) use regularly, the numbers are at

http://popcon.ubuntu.com/by_vote

#<name> is the package name;
#<inst> is the number of people who installed this package;
#<vote> is the number of people who use this package regularly;
#<old> is the number of people who installed, but don't use this
package
#        regularly;
#<recent> is the number of people who upgraded this package recently;
#<no-files> is the number of people whose entry didn't contain enough

In terms of actual usage, around 6% of Ubuntu's around 1M users
participating in popcon
(opt-in, so don't take the numbers too seriously) use mono and about
the same amount
uses Java SE 6 - so in terms of desktop user mindshare, that's
probably not as bad as
some participants in this thread would expect, I guess.
