It looks more like they are going to combine it really not just making it a side track. It seems it is getting an alltogether huge event. - My fear is: Will the infrastructure at the location be capable of managing that huge amount of people? ;-) I find it logically that they combine the events as Oracle does so much on Java - already for a long time. BTW: Is there somewhere an overview/statistic, how much different companies participated in JCP or on Java related projects in general. They mentioned that they participate in more than 80 JSRs, so I think they were already quite involved into Java for a longer time...
