Also, Sun tried, unsuccesfully, to get a top-notch Java mobile OS with

I think that Larry Ellison clearly stated that they don't want to sell
phones, but the software that runs on phones. After buying Sun they
now own JME and JavaFX (Mobile). They have clearly stated that they
consider JavaFX (Desktop) strategic, so now they just need to have
JavaFX (Mobile) spread. Which means having some major producer to
endorse it, and have it to happen in a *very* strict timeline. Major
producer means Android (*) and Nokia (at least). Very strict timeline
means this summer - and possibly the end of May so when I'll speak
about JavaFX Mobile at Jazoon 2010 I'll be able to say that it doesn't
run only on a bunch of Windows Mobile phones :-) which, today, is
embarrassing :-(

I've been a Palm customer since 1998, have started programming J2ME in
1999 since the first day they distributed it bundled in special Palm
gear sold at Java One '99, and programmed on the Palm J2ME for years.
It's clear that Palm strategy, successful or not, does not involve
Java, since when that infamous J9 was dropped and not replaced.

Rather than dealing with a platform that, even though successful,
won't be a major player in the market, I think that if Oracle is
really committed in mobile development they need to push what they
already own.

(*) It has been said multiple times that there's already a JavaFX
runtime running on top of Android, so the business deal is the only
missing point.
