I must admit that I am interested in what happens in the mobile space. It is a shame official JavaME could not be used on Android. Much as Java on the desktop has been GPL'ed and set free the JavaME as I understanding still involves paying royalties / licensing cost to use it (if I understand correctly). I wonder if it has been too much of a good revenue stream for Sun in the past for it to be viable to set free. If it ends up being marginalised by the competition thought it may diminish its value to the point that Mobile vendors see no value if paying for the licence to use JavaME. Do you think JavaME will have to be made free in the long run for it to survive?
JavaME matters to me as I am the project leader in a volunteer project put the books and materials of the Church to which I belong on mobile devices. Volunteer projects exist for iPhone/iPad, Android, Palm/WebO/ S, Blackberry and Windows Mobile in addition to the JavaME project I am currently heading up. As a result what happens to JavaME is a big deal to me. The project could fail if I can't get the document reader to run in the tight constraints of the JavaME environment but if I pull this project off it may be the closes I get to pulling off a Java rockstar-esque act. The project could well warrant the tag line: JavaME...It's getting religious. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
