They surely did a lot of good and I'll miss them but it should also
serve as a lesson to anyone who thinks that all you need to succeed is
technical excellence in your domain, Sun had many technically
excellent people and it wasn't bugs or lack of features that doomed
the company, it was the lack of a cohesive commercial plan most
sharply manifested when actually trying to buy stuff from Sun. I just
gave up trying to buy stuff from Sun as their sales staff never knew
what they had to sell and/or how much it was going to cost. Oracle
sales people on the other hand, can rattle off 10 different ways in
which you can move cash from your grubby little fist to their shiny
vault. I guess I could summarise Sun's business plan as

???

Here's hoping that the creativity and enthusiasm of Sun employees will
be recognised by Oracle as the valuable asset it is.
