The little pin and piece of paper are fun mementos, but I doubt you'll need to bring them anywhere to prove your cert status. There's a process online to email a verification of your cert status to any person you want. The process is described here: http://www.coderanch.com/t/143103/sr/certification/Verification-Sun-Certification
The only time I've needed to prove my status was when I joined a LinkedIn group that required proof of certification at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=85485 If I want to impress someone with my credentials, I prefer the piece of paper I got at the testing center, which shows my actual score. The test is pass/fail and some people pass without getting a high percentage right.
