This seems very different from Apple in a lot of ways. * Google told everyone why. * The purpose was to remove a malicious application. * There was open disclosure as to when this might happen again.
Conversely for Apple * Tells no one why their application was removed * Any reason is good enough for them * And it keeps happening with no guidance how it can be avoided. These scenarios seem totally opposite to me. If there is a bad program masquerading as something useful, it is a good thing to have the ability to get rid of it. Not having these tools would show a lack of foresight and responsibility. We don't know if they can kill programs installed outside of the marketplace but my guess would be that it should be possible for them to do so. They seem like separate operations where one is a finding and the other just tells the phone to delete an application. We should watch for when it happens again. Still, I don't think this is anything compared to what Apple has been doing in its marketplace.
